LifeShare is a not-for-profit organ procurement organization designated by the federal government to serve 40 hospitals in a 22 county area of southwestern North Carolina. The organization is based in Charlotte with a satellite office in Asheville. LifeShare works to improve the quality of human life by providing organs and tissues for transplantation and helping hospitals and their communities through educational and support services.

LifeShare is a member of the federally mandated Organ Procurement and Transplant Network and works closely with the United Network for Organ Sharing, which maintains the national computerized waiting list for potential transplant recipients. In addition to the organ procurement organization, LifeShare also operates a full-service Eye Bank.

You Can Help!
The most important thing you can do is to register your donation decision at www.donatelifenc.org and make sure your next-of-kin knows your feelings. Sadly, over 4,000 people die each year waiting on a suitable donor. By signing up on the North Carolina donor registry, your decision is legally binding and can be enforced when others arent available to honor your wishes.

Talking about donation doesn't have to be hard. You can talk about it on the way out to pick up a sandwich or to a sports event. To make it even easier, we've included an electronic donor card that you may e-mail to family and friends.

Chances are your family knows how you like your coffee and where you keep your important papers. Shouldn't they know your wishes on donation too?
