Improving lives through organ eye and tissue donation

Eye Donation

Eye Donation

Thanks to media coverage, we’ve all heard about heart, liver and kidney transplants. The need for organs is great, but the list doesn’t stop there. Thousands of others are in need of corneal transplants to cure blindness.

The cornea is the clear covering over the front of the eye. Most people who need new corneas need them because of disease, an injury or an infection. In addition to transplants, we also provided eye tissue for research on glaucoma and other eye diseases.

Corneal transplants are the most common type of transplants performed in the United States. LifeShare has been recovering and distributing eye tissue to ophthalmologists throughout the region since 1984. Our eye bank is accredited by the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA).
