Working Together
Our Partners in Saving Lives
Our mission of giving hope, life, and healing would not be possible without our many partners. Their commitment and collaboration are vital to making organ, eye, and tissue donation happen.
In 2022, we saved more than 500 lives!
Thanks to our incredible partners who made this milestone possible.
LifeShare works with more than 40 hospitals in our service area. Our hospital partners notify us when someone meets medical criteria for organ, eye, or tissue donation. We work with the hospital throughout the process to care for the donor, support the family, and recover the donated gifts.
LifeShare works with transplant centers around the country to find matching recipients for donated organs. We coordinate the organ recovery time and logistics and assist surgeons during recovery. We also help our local transplant hospital with out-of-state organ recovery. Our team flies with the surgeons to help with the surgery, packing, and transporting the donated organ.
In many cases, the medical examiner investigates the cause of death. When that happens, our teams work with them to ensure no part of the donation process will interfere with their investigation.
A person receiving end-of-life care in a hospice facility can become a tissue and eye donor. Their family must ask the hospice staff to call LifeShare when the patient dies. Timing is critical. They should call as soon as possible to ensure donation can proceed.
If a patient dies before reaching a hospital, the EMS agency can call LifeShare to refer the patient for tissue and eye donation. Timing is critical. This call should be made as soon as possible to ensure donation can proceed.
LifeShare provides information for funeral homes to include in their pre-planning programs. The brochure aims to educate people to make this important decision now and take the burden off their families.
When organs can’t be transplanted, they can still make a difference through medical research. LifeShare works with several organizations dedicated to changing and saving lives through groundbreaking medical studies. Learn more about common uses of research.
After tissue is recovered, it is packaged and sent to our tissue processing partners. They turn the donated gifts into transplantable tissue grafts.
99% of people who say “yes” to organ, eye, and tissue donation make that choice at the DMV. Examiners ask anyone getting or renewing their driver’s license or state ID if they want to be a donor. Making this decision today will take a burden off your family during a time of tragedy.
LifeShare is dedicated to educating our communities through events, health fairs, employee wellness events, and other educational opportunities. Request a LifeShare teammate to join your event or group.
Many people hesitate to donate is because they think it is against their religion. We hope to eliminate this misconception with our Hope Through Faith program. Request materials to bring this program to your congregation.
